Diego Velázquez and Spanish conquerors founded the first seven villages in Cuba: Baracoa, Bayamo, Santiago de Cuba, Santa María del Puerto del Príncipe (today Camagüey), Sancti Spíritus, Trinidad and San Cristóbal de La Habana. The historic, cultural and social development of the country focused on these villages. The huge advances achieved by some of them made possible that they keep their original name and continue to be among the most important cities of Cuba.
Havana, Cuban capital since the XVI century, is one of the most important cities in the Caribbean. It holds a rich cultural heritage that places it in a privilege position. Cosmopolitan, joyful and bright Havana has the charisma of those splendid cities and the mixture of modernity and antiquity in its eclectic architecture. In the rest of the localities a peaceful atmosphere reigns and the cultural and historical traditions are deeply rooted. But something you will always find, however, no matter what part of Cuba you are at, is the hospitable way that characterizes Cubans.
In addition to the already mentioned, other important cities are Pinar del Río (best tobacco producer in the world), Matanzas (the Athens of Cuba), Cienfuegos (single village in Cuba founded by the French) Santa Clara ( the city of Che), Ciego de Ávila, Las Tunas, Holguín, Guantánamo and Santiago de Cuba, the second most important city in Cuba.
True jewels with architectonic, patrimonial and historical values, squares, museums, folklore, rum, tobacco and music will be the center of every single tour, but the most precious values you’ll find will be getting in touch with people really proud of showing their country.
